What IS NGTC?

The Next Generation Trumpet Competition is a virtual new music contest for 18-26 year-old trumpet players, featuring new works from some of today’s most exciting composers.

The three rounds are adjudicated by a panel of leading trumpet artists, joined by the composers themselves.  Leading up to the competition, we host a day of virtual masterclasses and social sessions led by our artists for the participants. These masterclasses cover the music, entrepreneurship, diversity-equity-inclusion, collaboration, trumpet playing, mindfulness and so much more. Participants are given a PDF of all of the new etudes (as well as an original fanfare composed for each edition of NGTC) and access to a private Facebook group where they can pose questions and dialogue with our artists. In the weeks leading up to the competition, our trumpet artists will record video premieres of the new works. These videos will be available on our website, as well as shared on social media.

NGTC began as an opportunity to engage the next generation of performers with not only other young trumpet players, but with our roster of artists amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, we have developed a strong community of musicians dedicated to cultivating a diverse and forward-thinking ethos. We are reimagining the competition model to focus outward, and to empower all of our participants and collaborative artists. To achieve this we are commissioning new music from composers representing the diversity that makes our field great, and treating the competitive element of NGTC as a front for celebrating self-expression and community building.

We are more than a competition.

Sincerely,
